Therefore, what men commonly refer to as "outer
space," more appropriately should be
called "the heavens."
C.S. Lewis, from Out of the Silent Planet (paraphrased)

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ . . ." Ephesians 1:3

"By faith . . . he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God."
Hebrews 11:8-10 (conflated)

"Christmas Tree Catastrophe" - by Anna

'Twas December 21st,
and we were decorating our tree
with lights glowing brightly
for all to see.

After thirty or so minutes,
we sat down to gaze
at what we'd accomplished
in that half-hour phase.

Colored lights strewn
all the way to the top,
where topper St. Nick sat
with beard like a mop.

Ornaments of all kinds
and shapes and sizes;
some so amazing—
such colorful surprises!

But little did we know
peacefully watching a movie,
something would happen that was
NOT so groovy.

Our tree toppled over,
all the way to the ground;
yes, very sadly,
our tree had fallen down.

Setting it back up,
excluding one ornament broken,
in my head a tiny voice
was very outspoken:

"Don't fret about this;
it's another Christmas memory
of the strange and mysterious
Christmas Tree Catastrophe."

"Mr. Frost"

Our third official snowman is "Mr. Frost" — born on December 15, 2007. I think he's more dignified than our "Mr. Freeze" (Jan. 2005), though maybe not quite as cool as our "Mr. Kool" (see bottom photo from Jan. 19, 2002). But then life rarely duplicates itself from year to year. (I just hope Ellen won't find out that "Mr. Frost" was trying to make "bunny ears" behind her head when this (top) pic was taken!)

"The 12 Days of Christmas Revisited" (Secret Santa 2005)

Two Christmases ago, each member of our family was the recipient of the gracious gift-giving generosities of a "Secret Santa" who disappeared from our doorstep for 12 consecutive evenings leading up to Christmas day. Included in our email "thank you" we decided to to re-write the lyrics to "The 12 Days of Christmas" to highlight the gifts bestowed on us by "Secret Santa" that Christmas of 2005. The Innkeeper

I wonder what it might have sounded like. If you have could have eavesdropped on the participants at the "Bethlehem Inn" some 2000-plus years ago, I wonder . . . what might you have heard?

Listen to "The Innkeeper"

("The Innkeeper" is a  radio dramatization of the some of the events, as they might have occurred, surrounding and resulting from Jesus' birth. This 5-minute audio dramatization was written by Pastor Burt Williams and produced by Robert Wermuth at WPJS-FM, Orangeburg, SC — 1977.)
"In the Valley"

Words and music by Bob Kauflin

As recorded on Valley of Vision

Lyrics

When You lead me to the valley of vision
I can see You in the heights
And though my humbling wouldn’t be my decision
It’s here Your glory shines so bright
So let me learn that the cross precedes the crown
To be low is to be high
That the valley’s where You make me more like Christ

Chorus:
Let me find Your grace in the valley
Let me find Your life in my death
Let me find Your joy in my sorrow
Your wealth in my need
That You’re near with every breath
In the valley

In the daytime there are stars in the heavens
But they only shine at night
And the deeper that I go into darkness
The more I see their radiant light
So let me learn that my losses are my gain
To be broken is to heal
That the valley’s where Your power is revealed

"Take a Lamb"

Jamie Soles

Lyrics

Take a lamb, lead a spotless lamb to the slaughter
For the sake of yourselves, your sons and your daughters
Put the blood on the doorposts and the lintel of your house
When the angel comes he will see and pass over

Chorus:
Take a lamb, lead a spotless lamb to the slaughter
For the sake of yourselves, your sons and your daughters
Put the blood on the doorposts and the lintel of your house
When the angel comes he will see and pass over

The blood will be to Me a sign
That all within the house are Mine
Those who eat the lamb are delivered from My Hand
I will take them to the land that I have promised

Chorus:
Take a lamb, lead a spotless lamb to the slaughter
For the sake of yourselves, your sons and your daughters
Put the blood on the doorposts and the lintel of your house
When the angel comes he will see and pass over

You shall remember this day
As an evermore memorial to Me
You shall keep the feast, from the greatest to the least
You shall take and eat, remember and believe

Chorus:
Take a lamb, lead a spotless lamb to the slaughter
For the sake of yourselves, your sons and your daughters
Put the blood on the doorposts and the lintel of your house
When the angel comes he will see and pass over

LORD OF THE PAST
Bob Bennett

LYRICS

Every harsh word spoken
Every promise ever broken to me
Total recall of data in the memory
Every tear that has washed my face
Every moment of disgrace that I have known
Every time I've ever felt alone

Chorus:
Lord of the here and now
Lord of the come what may
I want to believe somehow
That you can heal these wounds of yesterday
(You can redeem these things so far away)
So now I'm asking you
To do what you want to do
Be the Lord of the Past
(Be the Lord of my Past)
Oh how I want you to
Be the Lord of the Past

All the chances I let slip by
All the dreams that I let die in vain
Afraid of failure and afraid of pain
Every tear that has washed my face
Every moment of disgrace that I have known
Every time I've ever felt alone

Well I picked up all these pieces
And I built a strong deception
And I locked myself inside of it
For my own protection
And I sit alone inside myself
And curse my company
For this thing that has kept me alive for so long
Is now killing me.
And as sure as the sin rose this morning,
The man in the moon hides his face tonight.
And I lay myself down on my bed
And I pray this prayer inside my head

Lord of the here and now
Lord of the come what may
I want to believe somehow
That you can heal these wounds of yesterday
So now I'm asking you
To do what you want to do
Be the Lord of my Past
You can do anything
Be the Lord of the Past
I know that you can find a way
To heal every yesterday of my life
Be the Lord of the Past

1989 Matters Of The Heart Music (ASCAP)
"Baruch Hashem"
LAMB

Lyrics

The heart of the Jew is Jerusalem
The Messiah his only King
And when in the soul of the Jew He reigns
Peace to the city He brings

Chorus:
Ba-ruch ha-Shem ha-Ma-shi-ach, Yeshua
Ba-ruch ho-Shem A-do-nai
Ba-ruch ha-Shem ha-Ma-shi-ach, Yeshua
Ba-ruch ha-Shem A-do-nai

Behold the Son of Abraham,
Sent by God our people to redeem
When He came forth from Bethlehem
I heard the angels sing

Ba-ruch ha-Shem ha-Ma-shi-ach, Yeshua
Ba-ruch ho-Shem A-do-nai
Ba-ruch ha-Shem ha-Ma-shi-ach, Yeshua
Ba-ruch ha-Shem A-do-nai

Bless His Name for His Name is good
Yeshua ha Mashiach is the Name I love
Bless His Name for His Name is good
Sanctified us by His blood

Now we drink His wine of joy
Filled with the Spirit of Adonai
United in the love Messiah brings
Now we sing to Elohim

Ba-ruch ha-Shem ha-Ma-shi-ach, Yeshua
Ba-ruch ho-Shem A-do-nai
Ba-ruch ha-Shem ha-Ma-shi-ach, Yeshua
Ba-ruch ha-Shem A-do-nai......

Hebrew translation: (Sing this chorus along with the Hebrew.
It works!)

Bless-ed is the name of (the) Mess-i-ah Je-sus (Yeshua)
Bless-ed is the name of the Lord. (Adonai)
